Maggie Grace was born Margaret Grace Denig, September 21 1982. She is an American actress best known for her role as Shannon Rutherford in ABC TV series Lost. After her parents' divorce, she left Worthington, Ohio to live at Los Angeles. The year 2001 was a difficult one for her, but despite financial struggles, she was able get her first significant role in the online video series Rachel's Room as the lead character. Her portrayal of Martha Moxley, a 15-year-old victim of murder, in the television film Murder In Greenwich in 2002 earned her a nomination for a Young Artist Award. In 2004 Grace was cast as Shannon Rutherford in the television series Lost on which she acted as a principal actor for the first two seasons, and was awarded an award called the Screen Actors Guild Award shared with the ensemble cast. After leaving the show, Grace would like to be as a film actress, and had starred opposite Tom Welling in The Fog in 2005. She appeared in Suburban Girl The Jane Austen Book Club (both 2007) and opposite Liam Neeson as Kim Mills in Taken in the year 2008. She reprised her role in Taken 2 (2012) and Taken 3 (2014).She played the lead role Alice on Malice in Wonderland a modern take on Lewis Carroll's novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Grace played the role of Shannon in two more episodes of Lost as well as the show's finale. She was in 2013 for the sixth season of Californication. She plays Faith who is both an avid stargazer as well as a groupie. Hank Moody, played by David Duchovny, falls for her. She is part of Gyllenhaal's family and is the elder sister of Jake Gyllenhaal. When she was a teenager, she began to work as a small part-time actress for her father. She also appeared in Donnie Darko alongside her sister. She appeared next in Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind as well as Mona Lisa Smile (2003). Gyllenhaal was praised by critics for her performance as a lead character actress in Secretary (2002) as well as in Sherrybaby (2006), the erotic drama about romance and Sherrybaby (2006). The actress was also nominated by her fellow actors for the Golden Globe Award. The Dark Knight, which came out in 2008 following numerous highly successful films, including World Trade Center (2006) which brought her greater recognition, was a huge success for Gyllenhaal. The year 2009 was the time she received a nomination as the best supporting Actress at the Academy Awards for her role of a single mother on screen in Crazy Heart. She then was in comedies and dramas, including Nanny McPhee's Big Bang (2010) Hysteria 2011, and Won't Back Down 2012 Some of her other parts include acting as a Secret Service agent of the Secret Service in White House Down 2013 as well as a vocalist in Frank 2014, and as a singer in The Kindergarten Teacher 2018, in which she plays the title character. Gyllenhaal debuted as a writer and director in 2021, with her drama about psychological issues The Lost Daughter. For the film, she won an award for the Best Screenplay Award at the Venice International Film Festival and nominated for an Academy Award.
